MEET DR. HILLMER

Dr. Jed D. Hillmer received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University in 2006, graduating with distinction. Upon graduation, he worked in Minneapolis - St. Paul, Minnesota. In 2008 he joined Dr. Gary L. Renier in Fargo, studying geriatric vision care and low vision. He purchased Dr. Renier's clinic in 2010, establishing Hillmer Eye Clinic.

Dr. Hillmer has given multiple presentations on the Aging Eye, Vision and Falling, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Parkinson's Disease & Vision, and Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation.  He has served as the Clinical Director of the North Dakota Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes Clinic since 2014.  Professionally, he is a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA), College of Syntonic Optometry, American Optometric Association (AOA), and North Dakota Optometric Association (NDOA). Dr. Hillmer served on the NDOA board of directors for five years and was president of the NDOA in 2025.  He is currently on the medical advisory board for the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

Dr. Hillmer is a native of rural Carlos, Minnesota.  After completing high school in nearby Alexandria, MN he attended North Dakota State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Zoology.  He lives in north Fargo and cherishes his time with his wife, Annika, and their family.
